Bessner on Fukuyama

Danny here. I’ve spent the last couple of years working on-and-off on an essay that explores the intellectual history of Francis Fukuyama and which also acts as a critique of contemporary liberalism. I thought I’d share it with you all because it addresses topics we talk a lot about on the show: the Cold War, capitalism, where we are today, and much more.

I read (in Alan Ryan's book on Politics) that at the end of his life J.S. Mill, liberalism's founder (?), thought that liberalism would inevitably lead to Socialism, a development he welcomed. Unfortunately he didn't say how. What we have learned is that liberalism can be gamed by illiberal forces. Contrary to liberal ideals, the masses in the USA have little to no input into how they are governed.
